I’d Tap That [SENSOR] – News and Reviews Episode…

  • March 15, 2022April 13, 2022
  • by Richard Clarke

I really wanna tap that [SENSOR]. Hell, I’d tap it twice.

You heard me right. I wanna tap that sensor…the fingerprint sensor that is. Android 12 has a new gesture known as “Quick Tap” which makes common features more accessible.

By simply double tapping the fingerprint sensor, you can…

  • Take a screenshot
  • Access your digital assistant
  • Play or pause media
  • See recent apps
  • Show notifications
  • It even lets you open an app!

Gestures are the BEST part of using technology. Flipping the phone, double tapping, etc. It’s like I’m in Minority Report.

You can enable this feature by navigating to Settings > Gesture > Quick Tap

This is a 110% Great feature! Gestures make the smartphone experience more personal. It’s what sets them apart from laptops and desktop computers.

This quick tap lets you open apps on the fly, take screenshots, and more. Why scroll through your app drawer looking for Spotify when it’s two taps away? Holding buttons for a screenshot? no more Konami Code needed!

Okay, it was two keys…still harder than a single double tap though.

Double tapping the back of my phone for a quick screenshot is objectively FASTER and BETTER than holding the Power Key and Volume. There’s no chance to mess it up. Just two taps. It’s that easy!

This is the kind of innovation I like to see from Google. It’s good to see Android 12 simplifies some features instead of making them more difficult.

Now, once we can bring that screen double tap to unlock gesture, Google will REALLY be in business!
