Stick to Your Route!

I recently purchased a car that performs at optimal levels in warmer climates and doesn’t perform in colder climates. At all. Silver Spring weather is mixed between warm and freezing this time of year so you can probably guess how I feel about this car right about now…

Upset.

I love my three door hatchback, but, she just won’t operate in the cold. This has resulted in me being late to a lot of meet ups, family events, you name it. Sometimes I’m scared I’ll get stranded at work! A five minute pep talk usually starts the car, but being stuck at work is a nightmare.

After weeks of battling an unknown issue under my car’s hood, I made a terrifying revelation. I’ve lost my daily routine to my car. Without my routine, I can’t be consistent.

You wouldn’t use a bridge that looks shaky, and occasionally drops someone into a crevasse. Similarly, people won’t put their trust in someone who isn’t consistent.

Being consistent is important when accomplishing goals. Ideally, you want to set a path and stick to it until the end. Even if you know the way, you’ll only reach the end if you stay on your route.

Building strong habits and relationships starts with trust. Ask yourself, honestly, how often are you timely? Clean? Respectful? Hard working? If your answers vary, don’t sweat it. The great thing about life is we can change ourselves at anytime! If you want to better achieve your goals, establish trust in yourself by regularly working on these and other important attributes.

Adhering to a consistent set of behaviors, can improve your focus and attract other consistent people who are also looking to improve themselves.

If you find yourself in need of a restart, go for it! Maybe that work route is starting to overflow with traffic in the mornings. Perhaps late night gaming is taking its toll on you at work the next day. Whatever the case, if your current path to consistency is too bumpy, get rid of those roadblocks and create a route with a smoother road.

Peaceful in action, manic in thoughts.
